My experience with my Coach.......

Today was the first day with my Coach, Harry is his name and has coached some great athletes over the years.

It became apparent to me within a minute why I sought him out. You cannot coach yourself and expect to reach your potential. Your own perception of yourself gets in the way. You think you know what you need but you truly don't. Its not that he had me doing anything new or out of the ordinary, but this is the first time I have had someone watch me, I was held accountable, it was not a battle with myself it was a battle with task. I did not have to think, just do and do hard, get pushed in ways that I cannot push myself. I went way beyond the comfort zone, I was cursing him in my mind for making me push that hard. But in the end I knew he just did more for me in 1 hour than I have done for myself in years.

Here was how it went:
Walked in the gym, he said go run a mile and meet me at the backdoor, so I did and pushed it hard, when I got back the rower was waiting for me, OK now row 2700m and pull as hard as you can now. He was yelling at me the whole time and consistently on my ass if I slowed down at all, utterly fucking spent now....Alright Jeff, go run a mile in 8 minutes or less. Barely made that one, it took everything I had. Then a abdominal circuit awaited me.
20 toes to bar with elbow locks(harder than hanging from the bar)
20 weighted Bosi Ball sit ups
20 roll outs
10 truck drivers
repeat 4 times.

Why was this so different and Taxing?

I had absolutely no clue what I was in for. I pushed hard from the beginning not worried about the next task, just did and did hard. Had I known the entire workout I may have saved some, left some in the tank, I did not save anything cause I thought I may be done after. In the challenge you have to push hard from the beginning, so ya why would you train to pace yourself?
You shouldn't....

A sense of accountability is important for all of us. If train on your own, you will suffer the consequences, if you don't like criticism you close yourself off from improving. This is fact in the training world and you need to know it. If you want to do your best its up to you to put yourself in a situation where you are pushed mentally and physically(pushing yourself physically is also mental work).

Do the work, do it with quality in mind, do it focused, work together, develop a strong mind and stronger will and WORK TOGETHER(I know I said it 2 times)

8 short weeks of Training till Worlds, don't spoil it by giving yourself an out(classic firefighter move), don't be a flake......I won't flake on you, if you flake on me I have a hard time answering your questions or giving you the time of day when it comes to training(I will always like you guys). Don't waste my time I will not waste yours. I will give you as much as I can to make this team the best it can be

  1. Hey Jeff, Welcome to "Harry's Monsters!" I've been with him for a little over a year, others have been here since he got to Pleasanton about 3 years ago. One thing, today wasn't special. You'll get the same thing tomorrow, the day after tomorrow and the day after that. If you bring it, Harry will bring it ...ten fold. The results will be amazing!
